The CarboChar process, for the production of biochar and renewable heat, provides farmers with optimal solutions, with strong economic and environmental impacts. This Circular Economy solution improves farming practices (fertilizer reduction), improves soil condition in a sustainable way, reduces irrigation, cuts energy costs and improves farm income.
- Number of farms in mainland France (Agreste) : 389000.
- Number of farms > 100 ha : 100755.
- CarboChar-1 is ideal for farming operations : 400 t/an.
- Biochar mix: can be used as a soil improver, in organic farming, horticulture, gardens and vegetable gardens, …
Cost savings :
- Valorization of farm by-products: optimizes transport costs and purchases of plant materials.
- The operating costs of the “CarboChar-1” are greatly reduced: self-sufficiency in thermal energy and low consumption of electrical energy.
- For a maximum annual thermal energy production equal to 2080 MWhand a heat selling price equal to 30 €/MWh, the thermal energy saving is equal to 62,400 €/year.
Biochar sales :
- Mix 1/3 biochar and 2/3 compost: 1200 t/year.
- Minimum selling price: €250/t.
- Revenue generated: €300,000/year.
Sale of carbon credits :
- Agricultural co-products: 1 t of biochar yields an average of 2 t CO2eq.
- Average quantity of carbon equivalent: 800 t eq CO2.
- Average price of carbon credits: €157/t CO2 eq(February 2024).
- Gross revenue generated by the sale of these Carbon Credits: €125,600/year.
